New Music: La Dispute - "Edward Benz, 27 Times"

I will never forget listening to La Dispute's debut full-length, Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair, for the first time. The album re-ignited my passion for music, and brought me back to how I felt the first time I heard Thursday's Full Collapse. Needless to say, when I read they were releasing a new album, Wildlife (October 4th), I was excited. Then they gifted "Edward Benz, 27 Times" to the public, and I have to say, my expectations for the new disc are now truly massive. Bettering their first full-length would be a grand achievement. La Dispute has set a release date of October 4, 2011 for their new album Wildlife, the follow-up to their phenomenal 2008 release Somewhere At the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair. Free or Cheap: Explosions in the Sky, Saves the Day, No Sleep Records Compilation

Every one loves free or cheap stuff, so here's a few highlights from today:

Over at Amazon MP3, Explosion in the Sky's latest effort Take Care, Take Care, Take Care is the album of the day...so it's only $2.99. That's a steal, but act fast because that price is only good for today.

Also at Amazon MP3, No Sleep Records released a sampler, featuring some of their best bands, like La Dispute and The Felix Culpa. You really have no excuse not to at least give it a listen, because it's FREE. Get into it.

La Dispute, Defeater, and Native at Altar Bar, 5/20

There is a lot wrong with the current state of hardcore. I could write a whole ‘nother piece on what is shitty about the hardcore scene these days, but it really just boils down to unnecessary violence and lack of creativity. At shows, too many innocent bystanders are getting punched in the face during the same tired, “brutal” breakdown. It’s enough to turn people away from shows in the genre, and perhaps even the genre altogether. But luckily, there are still bands that represent what was wonderful about hardcore from the beginning, and on Friday night I had the chance to see three of those bands play this new wave of creative, emotional hardcore live.
